Christmas at Sea: Ryan Leet


Hi breezers,

As I have mentioned before in the pages of the Breeze, in the course of my career at sea, I spent many a Christmas on board ship.

Sometimes we would be fortunate enough to be in port, but more often than not we were beating around in heavy weather.The cooks always tried to do their utmost to prepare a Christmas feast. 

Christmas 2000 found me on board the Offshore Standby Vessel "Ryan Leet" We had perfect weather for two days at the Cohasset- Panuke oil patch, so the cook was able to really lay it on. I am uploading two pictures that takes in some of the buffet. Incidently, Diana, that cook is a Milfordian; Don Karney by name, Came from the interior of BC and was a pretty fair cook, but he couldn't make corned beef and cabbage, nor could he cook salt cod with turnps, 
potatoes and pork scraps. 

He was an ex-submariner and we all sailed a Hundred Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, during the time he was our cook.
